In late September you read on iPhoned our iPhone 7 review . An iPhone that does not look innovative due to its unchanged appearance, but that is due to numerous internal improvements. This feeling is also present four months later, but because the iPhone 7 is almost identical to the iPhone 6S , the iPhone was no longer a new one.
On the (stylish) new black color, the iPhone 7 looks unmistakably like an iPhone, just like the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6 . That's not the case, because Apple has a recognizable design with this design that has been updated for ten years. However, it did detract from the feeling of a totally new iPhone.
iOS 10 and performance
The fast-paced performance combined with iOS 10 fortunately makes the iPhone 7 feel like new. Quick switching between multiple apps is no problem, heavier games run smoothly, and when editing photos and videos, the device does not shrink. The new Taptic Engine has proven itself in four months.
The subtle vibrations that this engine gives will bring iOS a new way to life. For example, drag the notification screen down and you feel how the screen bounces on the bottom of your screen. The same goes for converting a switch to the settings or turning a button to set the alarm.
The function at which most fuss came about at the time has hardly influenced us. Removing the traditional headphone jack is a big change on paper, but we are seldom missing the port. The set of Lightning earphones is good enough to listen or listen to music while on the move, and Bluetooth headsets are getting cheaper and better. The adapter that Apple supplies to the iPhone 7, in the meantime, has permanently attached to our "old-fashioned" headphones, so we can easily use them.
The wireless future that did not seem to come
The arrival of the AirPods has also transformed us forever to the wireless future Apple wants. Even though you have to have 180 euros left for it and wait months to make it part of it. So we wonder how long it takes for Apple to put a set of wireless earphones in the iPhone box. Maybe with the iPhone 8 ?
Apple would have removed the headphone jack to make the iPhone waterproof. A nice extra that anno 2017 should actually be standard for all high end smartphones. In theory, you can bring your iPhone 7 through the shower or flush it out if you have sent a message with your fingers.
However, in practice we are still too hesitant to immerse the iPhone 7 regularly. Instead of a practical function, watertightness is especially reassuring that the smartphone survives a possible fall in the deep. The fact that water damage falls beyond Apple's warranty, of course, also plays a role.
A feature we still amaze about regularly is the quality of the camera. The dual camera lens of the iPhone 7 Plus makes great photos and videos that do not matter to a professional camera. This has even caused us to film our YouTube videos purely with an iPhone 7 Plus. The hundreds of pictures we have shot with now prove that you can make beautiful pictures at any time of the day. Photos in dark spaces allow coloring to come true naturally, while still on sharp day even after zooming.
