If something happens to your iPhone, according to Apple, you are entitled to one year warranty. However, this is in violation of European regulations, which stipulates that you can claim a two-year guarantee as a consumer. We'll show you how the warranty process works.
On its own website , Apple claims that you are entitled to a one-year iPhone warranty as a buyer. However, if you purchased the device in Europe, the European rules apply and you have the right to two years warranty. Apple does not report this itself, but if you indicate when you contact Apple, you will be granted the warranty.
Obviously, even if you purchased an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch via a reseller or third party, and both in the Netherlands and Belgium. Some parties like Amac offer a three year warranty. Then there may be reason to purchase your next iDevice.
All about iPhone warranty
However, it is important to find out what is covered by the iPhone warranty. In general, factory defects or other defects that are demonstrably not made by use will be automatically reimbursed. The warranty does not apply to the following items:
§ Consumables : The battery or protective layers on the device wear out over time. If you still want warranty on the battery, consider AppleCare + .
§ Cosmetic damage : for example scratches and dents on the housing. Nevertheless, damage caused by natural wear is not covered by the standard warranty.
§ Damage caused by use in combination with another product : You can not make Apple liable if an (unofficial) accessory has damaged your device.
§ Drop, shock, water and fire damage : To prevent this kind of damage, you can make sure AppleCare + is closed. More on this page you will read further.
§ Damage caused by misuse : If you use your device differently than prescribed in the manual, warranty will expire.
§ Damage caused by third party repairs : If you do not allow Apple to repair your device by non-Apple employees or unauthorized persons, you can not claim warranty.
§ Damage caused by adjustments made without Apple's permission. Here you can think of damage due to modifications (jailbreaking). If your device is broken and you still want to repair it by Apple, then it's up to the jailbreak to remove it.
If the device's serial number is unreadable (made) or may Apple reasonably assume it has been stolen, then the warranty will not apply. In addition, the most common damage, due to dropping or splashing in the water, is beyond the standard warranty.
Apple Care + and (water) damage
If you want to incur high costs after an accident, you can secure your iPhone by closing Apple Care +. For payment (the amount depends on the type of product) you get two years of Apple technical support and coverage for up to two damage. Please note: Damage to the display is subject to a risk of € 29 and, in case of damage, even € 99.
The advantage of AppleCare + is in the fast replacement service, but also in the fact that falls and water damage are covered. That is not the case with the standard warranty. If your iPhone has suffered water damage, it is important to turn it off immediately, allow it to dry and then check for damage. The latter check the liquid damage indicator that you find when removing the SIM card lock. If the color is red, there is water damage. If you have AppleCare +, you can contact Apple to have the iPhone repaired. You can also go to the nearest Apple Store with your device.
In addition to coverage for two damage events (due to drop, impact or moisture), you have AppleCare + warranty on battery, usb cable and charger. Additionally, you can claim software issues with, for example, iOS, iCloud, and Apple apps.
What about warranty on a device purchased abroad?
The warranty on an iPhone from abroad is similar in almost all cases to when you purchase the device in the Netherlands: default one year, and only for defects that are not demonstrably caused by the user. With an iPhone sold within the EU, you are entitled to a two-year warranty. Keep this in mind, for example, if you buy an iPhone in the United States or another country outside the EU.
Replacement device
If you have a defective iPhone that falls within the warranty period and has not been broken by your fault, you are entitled to a replacement device. If it's ok, Apple does not mind it, even though the company has replaced replaced iPhones more often with refurbished models. They are checked, refurbished and cleaned, but not completely new.You Do Not Have To Agree With A Replacement Device That Is Refurbished
As a consumer, you do not have to agree, however, a Dutch court judged by mid 2016. An iPhone 6 Plus owner had returned her broken device to Apple, got a replacement iPhone, but did not agree with the fact that it was a refurbished model proved to be. When Apple did not give home, she brought the case to court. Who put her in the same and summoned Apple to reimburse the device and pay the trial costs.
iPhone 7 is waterproof for the first time
The iPhone 7 (Plus) announced in September 2016 is the first iPhone that can handle water. The device has an IP67 certification, which means it is resistant to water and dust. The device survives for half an hour underwater to a depth of 1 meter. If you accidentally drop the iPhone 7 into the toilet bowl, you do not have to panic immediately.
It is important to remember that the iPhone 7 is not resistant to any type of fluid. Salt sea water can damage the internal hardware, so be sure to take the device to the beach. If you accidentally drop the smartphone into salt water, take it out immediately, rinse it off with fresh water and dry it well. Do the same if you have accidentally tampered with coffee or soda over the unit.
