iPhone 7 Review: Apple Gives innovation a Familiar Face

With the iPhone 7 , Apple is launching a new way with its smartphones. No brand new appearance, but a device that makes Apple the iPhone ready for the future. In our iPhone 7 review you will read all about it.

Design: new color, same design

When Apple released the iPhone SE earlier this year , we did not yet know that this would be an excellent preview on the iPhone 7. This iPhone also had an appearance that was almost identical to the iPhone 5S, but improved the device under this recognizable face on any level. With the iPhone 7, Apple does the same, because the device is almost impossible to distinguish from the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S .
The antenna strips on the back are better eliminated and the camera lens is bigger, but it stays with. This makes the lens really part of the device, rather than a circle that is laid on it. However, as soon as you do a case around the iPhone 7, you will not see that you have a brand new device. The front view of the iPhone 7 has nothing changed.
However, we would do the iPhone 7 by naming it as 'iPhone 6SS'. Even though it was because a lot of cargo innovations were implemented. The design is unfortunate, but as soon as you use the iPhone 7 yourself, you notice that he feels like a brand new smartphone. However, the design adversely affects the feeling that you have a brand new device in your hand.
UNFORTUNATELY, APPLE DID NOT RENEW THE DESIGN OF THE IPHONE 7

Live-like colors on the iPhone 7 display

Next year, Apple would make the long-awaited switch to OLED, but with the display of the iPhone 7, we're still having a year full. The 4.7 inch screen has a resolution of 1334 by 750 pixels with a pixel density of 326 pixels per inch. Due to the extra extensive color gamut, the colors of the screen shatter.

This makes the iPhone 7 just a little nicer to look at than the iPhone 6S, although the difference is not huge. However, it is true that the photos and videos we made with the iPhone 7 look the most beautiful on the screen of the smartphone itself. On the improved colors after, however, the screen is exactly what we have used to Apple. Relatively little reflection, good viewing angle and high contrast ratio.

The new home button and Taptic Engine

The first thing you notice when you get started with the iPhone 7 is the renewed home button. For the first time, the iPhone has no physical round button, but a flat sensor. It still looks the same, but it feels different. This is because of the Taptic Engine, an apple of Apple, which with subtle vibrations gives you the feeling of pushing a button.
In reality, the home button does not move anymore, and that's a bit of a bit used to it. The click you feel is a lot more subtle than before. However, in the settings you have the choice of three different types of vibration. These range from a vibration that you hardly feel to the third option, making you feel like moving your entire iPhone when you press the button.

This Taptic Engine is used in addition to the home button for many other things. For example, developers can use this vibrating engine for games, making your iPhone 7 feel like a game console controller. There are also new ways in the menus of iOS 10 to utilize the Taptic Engine. That's how you feel a subtle vibration when you turn on and off switches, and you'll notice how the notification screen on the bottom of your iPhone screen falls as you pull it down. Very cool, and just the little things that make a new iPhone so fun.

Amazing camera quality

The camera of both the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus is by far the biggest improvement that Apple is making this year. Both the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus have a twelve megapixel camera, which in both cases is equipped with optical image stabilization. Striking, as this was exclusively exclusive to the Plus model. Due to the larger aperture, the camera captures more light, which gives more beautiful pictures.
However, if you want to go for the iPhone with the best camera, you'll need to make the switch to the iPhone 7 Plus. It is equipped with a double camera lens on the back, which you notice. To demonstrate its quality, we've included our video view (see top of the article) with a 7 Plus, using the standard Camera app. Especially in the outdoors, colors are beautiful to their right, and a sharp sharpness effect can also be made.

With the double lens, the 7 Plus also allows optical zooming up to 2X. This brings you closer to the image without sacrificing quality. After that, you can still zoom up to 10X software, although your photo will soon be a lot less beautiful.
In addition to the great cameras on both the iPhone 7 and (especially) the 7 Plus, the front camera has also been improved. This makes the switch to 7 megapixels, and it was high time. Apps like Snapchat and Instagram continuously encourage us to make self-esteem, and for many users, the front camera will be used more often than the rear camera lens.
The quality of the front camera has clearly evolved, as soon as you notice that in dark environments it has a lot more trouble to perform well. The 'selfie flash', which sheds the iPhone screen and serves as a flash, helps with this.
THE FRONT CAMERA PERFORMS LESS IN THE DARK

Hardware: The A10 chip is fast and economical at the same time

In the field of hardware, the iPhone 7 can measure again with the best available smartphones today. Apple's A10 Fusion chip not only provides good performance, but also helps to keep the battery longer. The term 'Fusion' actually says: The A10 chip is a merger between two different sets of cores. Two cores are always active, while the other two are activated only when you use the iPhone intensively. Playing games for example, as well as editing videos.

The A10 chip is undoubtedly an improvement on that of the iPhone 6S, but in practice you will not notice much about it. The iPhone 6S was already very fast, and that's the iPhone 7 still. Therefore, after a week of extended testing, we can not show any striking benefits or differences, although this is a compliment to the iPhone 6S rather than a criticism of the iPhone 7. The phone also has 2GB of RAM while the 7 Plus with 3GB of work memory equipped.

The iPhone 7 finally improves battery life

During the unveiling of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, battery life was an important focus. Here we notice how the device benefits from the more economical A10 chip. This should leave the iPhone 7 two hours longer than the iPhone 6S, while the iPhone 7 Plus lasts one hour longer. We can emphasize this promise of Apple after our test period. On paper, those two hours do not look so impressive, but this is the difference between charging at work or not.
So let's get the iPhone 7 Plus now with a restless heart of the charger because we know we're comfortable with it until the next afternoon. This improved battery life is a big plus and it picks up a problem that iPhone users have been complaining about for years. However, the 7 Plus needs a lot of time to reach 100 percent.

The headphone crisis

The iPhone 7 is the first iPhone that is waterproof. Good news if you are regularly in the vicinity of water, but it's not free to go swimming with your iPhone. The iPhone 7 keeps it up to 30 minutes at a depth of one meter. Good enough for the shower so, and it protects the device if you accidentally make a dive.
To achieve this waterproofness, Apple has made a rigorous decision to blow up a lot of dust: the traditional headphone jack has disappeared. Instead, you close everything to the Lightning port. Bad news for headphone lovers, though it's less dramatic than some people believe. There is a Lightning adapter for 'old fashioned' headphones in the box of the iPhone 7, along with a set of Lightning EarPods.

As a result, this changes in practice but very little. For example, we use the EarPods to listen to podcasts and permanently attach the adapter to our superior headphones. The only inconvenience is that you can not charge the iPhone 7 while listening to music unless you use a Bluetooth headset.
Apple can not wait for this wireless future, but until this future is there, the adapter will be a bit tricky. With the iPhone 7, connecting a headset has suddenly become an act that you need to think about, and get used to it.

iPhone 7, is it worth the move?

With the iPhone 7, Apple takes a run-up to the iPhone of 2017. It has to go through the big changes that many people have been waiting for a while. A new design, an OLED display and a front where the screen edges disappear completely. It does not matter that the iPhone 7 is a great smartphone. The camera is amazing, and the improved battery life is a plus we enjoy every day. The new home button has been used after a week, although it will take some time for the headset to be completely out of your system.

Whether you need to switch depends entirely on the way you use an iPhone. If you're using an iPhone 5S, there's a whole list of arguments to make the transition to 7, but for iPhone 6S owners, this list is a lot shorter. The 6S is still a great smartphone one year after date, which, thanks to the recently released iOS 10 (read more in our review ), has enough news to offer. With the 2017 revolutionary iPhone, it is less logical to upgrade for 6S owners.

Conclusion iPhone 7 review

Apple shows that they have the priorities in the right place with the iPhone 7. It's a pity that the similar design makes the iPhone not so new, but do not let it be cheated. At the same time, the home button, camera, battery life and performance are reason enough to consider a switchover. And then we have not even talked about that beautiful matt black color. The iPhone next year is already exciting, but we're still happy with the iPhone 7.
